Card linking is the same kind of technology used by established UK rewards schemes. Here’s exactly who holds what, and what KindSpend can and can’t see.
Your bank card
Stays exactly as it is. Same card, same bank, same protections.
Certified card-linking provider
Turns your card details into a secure token, certified to PCI DSS Level 1, the card industry’s highest security standard.
KindSpend
Is only told when you’ve bought something from a KindSpend partner, so the partner can fund a donation.
What KindSpend sees
- The partner you bought from, the amount and the date
- Your card type and expiry date
- A masked card number (like 4242 •••• 1234), so you can recognise your card
What KindSpend never sees or does
- Your full card number or security code
- Your bank account, balance or other spending

Protected under UK data law
Your personal data is handled under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We’ll never sell or share it.
Your bank’s protections don’t change
Linking your card doesn’t affect how you pay, or your bank’s fraud and refund protections.

Unlink your card or delete your account whenever you like, and choose exactly which causes you support.

I’m Matthew, a lead software engineer with more than 20 years of experience.
Life has touched me in ways that showed me how much charities matter. I started KindSpend to give something back: a simple way for everyday spending to support them, without asking anyone to give more.
I want KindSpend to work for charities and the communities they serve, not just for its founder.
18 months in the making
KindSpend isn’t just an idea. We’ve spent 18 months building and testing the platform behind it. Card networks, rightly, want to see an active community before they connect a new service. The technology is ready. The community is the last piece.

Is KindSpend live yet?
Not yet, but it’s built. We’ve spent 18 months building and testing the KindSpend platform. Before card networks will connect a new service, they need to see an active community behind it, and every confirmed member of the waitlist helps show it. The waitlist hears first when we launch.
Does it cost me anything?
No. KindSpend is free for shoppers to join and use. You pay the normal price for whatever you buy, and nothing is added to it.
Who pays the donation?
The partner business. When you pay with your linked card at a KindSpend partner, they fund a donation to the causes you’ve chosen. It never comes out of your pocket.
How does KindSpend make money?
We plan to keep a small share of each partner-funded donation to run the service. You’ll never pay anything extra.
How will card linking work, and is it safe?
Your card details are handled by a card-linking provider certified to PCI DSS Level 1, the card industry’s highest security standard, and turned into a secure token. KindSpend never holds your full card number. KindSpend is only told when you buy from a partner: which partner, the amount and the date. We can’t see your full card number, your bank account or your other spending, and we can’t take payments. Your data is protected under UK GDPR, and your bank’s usual protections don’t change. Joining the waitlist only needs your email address.
How is this different from shopping-portal fundraising sites?
You won’t need to start from a special website, click a link before you buy, install a browser extension or enter codes at checkout. Link your card once and shop as you normally would.
Which partners and charities will take part?
We’re talking to charities and businesses now, and we’ll only name them once they’ve agreed. Tell us which causes matter to you after you join; it helps decide who we approach first.
When will KindSpend launch, and where?
In the UK, as soon as the right partnerships are in place. We won’t guess at a date, but the more people who join, the sooner that happens. You can leave the waitlist at any time using the link in any email.
